The Holy Grail of Warhol’s "Authorized Paradox"
This is not a modern reproduction. This is a rare, original 1970s Sunday B. Morning screen print—the only series where Andy Warhol was personally involved by providing the original screens and color codes to his Belgian collaborators. While the market is flooded with later 91.5 cm reprints, this 84.5 x 84.5 cm format is the hallmark of the authentic first-era editions.
The work is signed, dated and includes a hand-written inscription:
"This is not by me. Andy Warhol '76"
Verso stamped with : Fill in your signature and Published by Sunday B.Morning.
Signed in 1976, this inscription acts as Warhol’s legendary, ironic "blessing" of the work. During the mid-70s, Warhol was at the height of his social and artistic fame. By signing these works with a denial of authorship, he created a conceptual masterpiece that challenged the very definition of "original" art.
One of only ~25 known versions featuring this specific handwritten text.
Research indicates that only approximately 25 versions of this specific handwritten-text inscription exist within this original series. Finding an example with the '76 date is an incredible rarity, marking it as a true vintage artifact from the original production decade.
This work boasts an impeccable provenance, originating from the George Mulder Foundation. George Mulder was a close personal friend and a world-renowned publisher for both Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Mulder was the key link between Warhol’s New York Factory and the European art market. This provenance guarantees that the work was handled and signed within Warhol’s most trusted inner circle.
The work is professionally framed, in a custom-made black wooden frame with Plexiglas® Optical HC, offering UV protection, scratch resistance, and minimal reflection.
