1980

This is an original drawing - a working proof -  featuring handwritten notes and corrections by Pierre Alechinsky, overlaid with a translucent sheet of tracing paper on which the artist applied special color markings.

This unique work is part of the project L’Oie Belge (The Belgian Goose Game, 1980), a rare and dynamic collaboration between Pierre Alechinsky and Hugo Claus, two of Belgium’s most celebrated postwar artists. The result is a playful yet refined visual homage to this classic game of the goose.

Reimagined through a surrealist lens, the board game integrates Alechinsky’s vibrant, expressive drawings and poetic commentary by Claus. Each numbered square becomes a narrative fragment, populated by creatures, dice, moons, eyes, and claws.

This particular drawing corresponds to squares 5 and 6 of the board. The dynamic interplay between text and image transforms the structure of a traditional board game into a conceptually and visually rich work of art.

The piece is expertly and elegantly framed, floating in a custom-made, acid-free passe-partout, housed in an exclusive handcrafted white wooden frame with Plexiglas® Optical HC, which is UV-resistant and scratch-proof, offering remarkable clarity and a deep viewing experience.
Size framed : approx. 44 x 54 cm
