1972

This vibrant lithograph was created in 1972 for Robert Indiana’s solo exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark.

Hand-signed by the artist in white in the lower right corner and numbered in white in the lower left.

The work features Indiana’s world-famous LOVE motif — instantly recognizable for its stacked typography and the iconic tilted “O”. The LOVE design, originally conceived in the 1960s, has since become a universal emblem of peace and affection, transcending its countercultural origins to attain timeless status in contemporary art.

Published by Domberger, Stuttgart–New York,

The work is professionally framed, in a custom, handcrafted wooden frame with Plexiglas® Optical HC, offering UV protection, scratch resistance, and minimal reflection.
Size framed : approx. 90 × 65 cm

Robert Indiana (1928 - 2018) was a leading figure in American pop art. His work is rooted in bold language and graphic simplicity, often combining words, numbers, and vivid colors. Indianas LOVE image, first created in 1964, became a cultural phenomenon and was later adapted into sculptures and stamps. Despite or because of its visual simplicity, Indianas work reflects complex themes of American identity, politics, and personal philosophy.

His art is featured in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Tate Modern in London, among others
