1971

This playful and sculptural multiple by celebrated Pop Art artist Claes Oldenburg features a highly abstracted rendering of Mickey Mouse's head, executed as a mixed-media composition.

Monogrammed "C.O." in the print at the lower right.

The work consists of an offset lithograph on vélin paper, mounted on rigid foam board, and partially assembled with metal elements, including stainless-steel wire, bead chains, and nickel-plated fasteners, which together form a three-dimensional, mechanical interpretation of the iconic cartoon figure.

Size :  approx 50 × 45 cm

Published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles
Printed by Anderson Lithograph Company and assembled by Goodwill Industries, both in Los Angeles.

Claes Oldenburg (1929–2022) was a leading figure in the Pop Art movement, known for his monumental sculptures and ironic reimaginings of everyday objects. This Mickey Mouse multiple reflects his fascination with consumer culture, childhood nostalgia, and the intersection of flat imagery and tactile form.
