This lithograph by Günther Förg presents a powerful abstract composition dominated by deep violet tones and energetic, gestural brush-like forms. Broad, dark lines cross the surface in an almost architectural manner, intersecting and overlapping to create a sense of structure and tension. These bold strokes contrast with lighter, more translucent areas where the texture of the lithographic process remains clearly visible.

The work is signed and dated in pencil lower right, and numbered in pencil lower left - from a very low edition of only 28.

Sheet size approx : 71 x 56 cm

Color plays a central role in this work. The violet palette is rich and atmospheric, creating depth while maintaining a restrained, monochrome intensity. Subtle variations in tone and density give the surface a tactile quality and draw the viewer into the dialogue between form, space, and material.

Günther Förg (1952–2013) was a highly influential German artist known for his rigorous exploration of abstraction, architecture, and modernist visual language. Working across painting, photography, sculpture, and printmaking, Förg engaged critically with the legacy of modernism, particularly Bauhaus architecture, Minimal Art, and Abstract Expressionism. His works are characterized by strong colors, reduced forms, and an intentional tension between structure and painterly gesture. Förg exhibited internationally at major institutions such as the Venice Biennale, MoMA, and Tate, and his work is held in leading museum collections worldwide.
