Round 1970
This elegant screen print is a refined example of geometric abstraction by Ilya Bolotowsky, one of the leading figures of American post-war abstraction. The composition is structured around a large vertical oval, divided into carefully balanced fields of blue tones intersected by crisp white lines and subtle red accents. The precise geometry and harmonious color relationships create a calm yet dynamic visual rhythm, reflecting Bolotowsky’s lifelong exploration of balance, proportion, and visual clarity.
The work is signed in pencil by Ilya Bolotowsky at the lower center. It is numbered in pencil at the lower left, and says Basel in pencil at the lower center.
The work is professionally framed in our own frame-shop, in a hand-crafted, black wooden frame with Plexiglass® Optical HC. Size framed approx. 92 x 62 cm.
Ilya Bolotowsky (1907–1981) was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and emigrated to the United States in 1923. He became a key member of the American Abstract Artists group and was deeply influenced by De Stijl and the theories of Piet Mondrian. Bolotowsky played a crucial role in establishing geometric abstraction in the United States, translating European modernist ideas into a distinctly American visual language. His works are held in major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
