1992
This striking mixed media composition by Lucebert captures the raw energy and expressive power that defines his unique visual language.
Hand-signed and dated lower left (92 VIII)
Created in 1992, the work combines watercolor and crayon in a vivid, emotionally charged palette dominated by reds, purples, ochres, and blues.
The image presents a trio of distorted, anthropomorphic figures, rendered in a primitive, almost totemic style—iconic of Lucebert’s late period, where grotesque forms serve as metaphors for the human condition. The figures seem caught in motion or dialogue, radiating a powerful emotional presence.
The work is professionally framed to museum standards, in a custom, handcrafted wooden frame with Plexiglas® Optical HC, offering UV protection, scratch resistance, and minimal reflection.
Size framed : approx. 70 × 100 cm
Lucebert (born Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk, 1924–1994) was a leading Dutch poet and visual artist, best known as a founding member of the COBRA movement. As both a writer and painter, he was instrumental in defining post-war European avant-garde art. His work is recognized for its fusion of poetry, existential inquiry, and explosive visual spontaneity.
Lucebert’s artworks are housed in numerous prestigious collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. He remains one of the most influential figures in Dutch modern art.
