This rare lithograph titled 8 Zollstocksterne (translated: 8 Folding Ruler Stars) by German artist Sigmar Polke features a sequence of eight photographic images arranged in two vertical columns.
The title appears printed on the front of the sheet, while the edition is hand-signed and numbered by the artist on the reverse.
Each image documents a star constructed from yellow folding rulers, staged in various lighting situations and domestic interiors. The work evokes both a sense of playful experimentation and subtle critique of formalism, blurring boundaries between photography, installation, and conceptual art.
The work is professionally framed to museum standards, floating mount on linen, within a thick, acid-free passe-partout, in a custom wooden frame,, hand-made in The Netherlands, with Artglass AR70 , offering UV protection, scratch resistance, and minimal reflection.
Size framed : approx. 65 × 55 cm
Sigmar Polke (1941–2010) was one of the most influential post-war German artists. A co-founder of Kapitalistischer Realismus alongside Gerhard Richter, Polke developed a body of work that challenged conventions of artistic media, authorship, and cultural value. Known for his experimental use of materials and ironic references to consumer culture and politics, his work spans painting, photography, printmaking, and installation. Polke's works are held in major collections including MoMA, Tate, and the Centre Pompidou.
