Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona, 1923–2012) was one of the most influential European artists of the post-war period and a leading figure of Art Informel and material-based abstraction. His work is characterized by an intense focus on surface, matter, and signs, often incorporating sandearth-like pigmentsscratches, and symbolic markings. Tàpies viewed the artwork as a space for reflection on existence, spirituality, memory, and time. His art bridges painting, philosophy, and politics, combining raw physical presence with profound intellectual depth. His work is represented in major international museum collections worldwide.
