2006
This exceptional and rare art print by renowned German artist Gerhard Richter is based on his iconic 1967 painting Olympia (oil on canvas, 200 x 130 cm), part of the Böckmann Collection in Berlin.
Hand-signed in pencil by the artist below the image, centrally placed.
Depicting a woman in lingerie standing confidently in an intimate interior, Olympia exemplifies Richter’s early photo-painting technique. The subject appears softly blurred, evoking the sensation of memory, distance, and voyeurism. Richter’s deliberate use of photographic blur challenges the boundary between realism and abstraction, painting and photography.
The print is professionally mounted on acid-free cardboard to enhance its photographic quality and is beautifully framed with a custom-made, acid-free passe-partout. The handcrafted wooden frame is finished with Plexiglas® Optical HC, high-clarity, scratch-resistant and UV-protective.
Size framed : approx. 100 x 70 cm
Gerhard Richter (b. 1932) is widely recognized as one of the most important and influential contemporary artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Known for his extraordinary range, Richter has worked across figuration, abstraction, and conceptual art, often exploring the relationship between photography and painting.
He escaped East Germany in 1961 and developed a distinct painterly style in West Germany, pioneering his famous “photo-paintings” using everyday images rendered in soft focus. His later works include monumental abstract canvases, color charts, and glass sculptures. Through his varied output, Richter consistently explores themes such as perception, memory, identity, and truth.
