This rare lithograph by Richard Long, created in 1995, presents a restrained circular composition with an abstract surface structure inspired by the Icelandic landscape. Reduced to texture, rhythm, and form, the image reflects Long’s minimalist approach, in which nature, time, movement, and human presence are distilled to their essence. The work embodies Long’s practice of translating physical experience in the landscape into a quiet, conceptual visual language.
The lithograph is hand-signed, dated, and numbered in pencil at the lower center. The title “Icelandic Rock Drawing” is handwritten in red pencil at the bottom of the sheet. Issued in a very small edition of only 35, this work is rare and highly sought after within Land Art, Minimal Art, and Post-War printmaking.
Sheet size: 42 × 34 cm.
Richard Long (born 1945) is widely regarded as a pioneer of Land Art. Since the late 1960s, his work has been grounded in the act of walking, using simple gestures and natural materials to register time, distance, and place. His oeuvre is defined by conceptual clarity, minimal form, and restraint, translating physical movement into drawings, photographs, texts, and prints. Long’s work is held in major international museum collections. He was awarded the Turner Prize in 1989 and represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1976.
