Inspired by the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the portfolio “ Flash – November 22, 1963 “ explores the relationship between mass media, public memory and the construction of historical events through printed images. Warhol examines the way newspapers and television transformed a national trauma into a sequence of endlessly reproduced visual symbols.

This composition features a striking portrait of President John F. Kennedy, rendered in Warhol's characteristic halftone screenprint technique and reduced to black and magenta tones. Derived from a televised image, the portrait captures Kennedy in a solemn moment, transforming the image into a powerful symbol of twentieth-century history.

The Flash portfolio consists of eleven screenprints that combine newspaper headlines, photographic imagery and bold colour to investigate the influence of the media in shaping collective memory. By appropriating images originally distributed through newspapers and television, Warhol blurred the boundaries between journalism, history and fine art.
