This powerful giclée print from 2013 presents one of Armando’s iconic flower motifs, rendered with intense emotional weight and dramatic contrast. Against a deep black background, the vivid red flower radiates outward in thick, expressive petals, creating a visual tension between beauty and darkness. The heavy, tactile appearance of the red pigment evokes themes of memory, violence, and human presence, which are central to Armando’s artistic language.
The work is signed in pencil by Armando in the lower right and numbered in pencil in the lower left, confirming its authenticity and place within the edition. Printed as a high-quality giclée on paper, the composition retains the depth and painterly intensity characteristic of the artist’s original works. The sheet size is approx. 60 × 60 cm.
Armando (Herman Dirk van Dodeweerd, 1929 – 2018), was one of the most important post-war Dutch artists, known for his multidisciplinary practice as a painter, writer, poet, and sculptor. His work consistently explores themes of guilt, history, power, and the psychological scars of war, often expressed through stark imagery, restrained color palettes, and symbolic motifs such as trees, flags, animals, and flowers. Armando represented the Netherlands at the Venice Biennale and his works are held in major museum collections across Europe.
