This lithograph is part of the 'Hans Christian Andersen Suite', a series of twenty-four lithographs inspired by twelve different fairy tales written by Hans Christian Andersen.
Danish artist Carl-Henning Pedersen (1913-2007) was self-taught. From the start he painted subjects such as aliens, animals and mythical creatures in an abstract style. He was a member of the Cobra movement and was inspired by, among others, Pablo Picasso and George Braques. Pedersen is considered one of Denmark's most prominent post-war artists.
