An exceptional original felt-tip drawing on paper by the celebrated Swiss-German artist Dieter Roth, created in 1975.

Signed and dated in coral-red felt-tip pen along the lower margin: "Dieter Roth, 17.3.75."

The composition depicts a stylised bird—most likely a parrot—perched on a stand within a cage. Executed with a single flowing line and accented by a striking coral-red eye, the drawing demonstrates Roth's extraordinary ability to convey character and emotion with the utmost economy of means.

This work was included in the exhibition Dieter Roth & Dorothy Iannone, organised in the Sprengel Museum Hannover, in 2005.

Although deceptively simple, the work embodies many of the qualities that define Dieter Roth's artistic practice: spontaneity, wit, experimentation and poetic ambiguity. The bird appears both playful and contemplative, while the sparse composition leaves ample room for the viewer's imagination.
