This refined embossed print is an outstanding example of Jan Schoonhoven's lifelong exploration of structure, rhythm and light. Created entirely through relief without the use of ink, the composition consists of a meticulously ordered grid of subtle geometric forms. 

As the light changes, delicate shadows emerge across the embossed surface, giving the work a quiet yet dynamic presence. The absence of colour directs the viewer's attention entirely to texture, balance and the interaction between light and shadow.

Jan Schoonhoven (1914–1994) is regarded as one of the leading figures of post-war Dutch art. He was a founding member of the Dutch Nul Group and closely associated with the international ZERO movement, alongside artists such as Günther Uecker, Heinz Mack and Otto Piene. His distinctive white reliefs and embossed works sought to eliminate personal expression in favour of structure, repetition and the natural effects of light. 

Today, his works are represented in major museum collections worldwide, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Kunstmuseum Den Haag, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, and numerous international public and private collections. His embossed prints and reliefs are highly sought after by collectors of post-war European art.
