The work consists of the original felt-bound book “ Joseph Beuys und die Medizin”, published in 1979, accompanied by an original package of GOTHAPLAST medical bandage, both presented together in a custom plexiglass display case.
The hardcover publication, issued by F. Coppenrath Verlag in Münster, comprises 160 pages and explores Beuys’s long-standing engagement with medicine, therapy, and the idea of art as a transformative, restorative practice. Medicine, for Beuys, functioned not only in a clinical sense but as a metaphor for social, political, and spiritual healing.
The accompanying GOTHAPLAST package is hand-signed and inscribed in pen by Beuys with the words “1 Wirtschaftswert” (one economic value), directly referencing his influential concept of Das Wirtschaftswert-Prinzip.
By elevating an everyday medical object through inscription and context, Beuys challenges conventional definitions of value, production, and usefulness within capitalist society.
Professionally presented, by our own frame-shop in an exclusive Plexiglass showcase, which can be presented standing or hanging. Size showcase : approx.40 × 50 x 4 cm.
