Indiana first created HOPE for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008, a direct reference to his iconic LOVE motif. He saw the word “HOPE” as a message of empowerment for a new generation.

Robert Indiana (1928–2018) was a key figure in the American Pop Art movement. Throughout his career, Indiana combined geometric abstraction with bold, universal words to communicate messages of identity, politics, and human values. His works reflect both poetic simplicity and visual power, cementing his status as a master of American graphic language.
