Over The Rainbow brings together, for the first time, the work of two renowned Japanese artists and longtime friends. 

The idea for a collaborative project was born in 1997, when the two artists began working together. In the summer of 2004, their vision materialized during a three-month residency in Vienna at the invitation of the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere. The result of this creative encounter is documented in Over The Rainbow, offering a rare glimpse into their process and shared artistic dialogue.

This hardcover volume includes 96 pages and 71 images that showcase the dynamic exchange between the two artists.

Yoshitomo Nara (b. 1959) is one of Japan’s most iconic contemporary artists, internationally celebrated for his emotionally charged depictions of children and animals, often rendered in a style inspired by manga and pop culture. His work enjoys cult status in Japan and is highly sought after around the world.

Hiroshi Sugito (b. 1970), a former student of Nara, has established a distinct voice of his own. His delicate and lyrical compositions blend traditional Japanese aesthetics with influences from Western painting, creating a poetic visual language where Zen subtly meets Pop.
