Meret Oppenheim (Berlin 1913–1985 Basel) was a pioneering Swiss-German artist best known for her bold and surrealist works that challenged traditional notions of femininity, material, and meaning in art.
Her most iconic creation, "Object" (1936) – a fur-covered teacup, saucer, and spoon – became a landmark of 20th-century art and one of the most recognizable pieces in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. The work encapsulates her fascination with transformation, contradiction, and the subconscious.
She is widely regarded as one of the most influential female figures in modern art and a trailblazer in feminist and conceptual art movements. Her work is held in major international collections, including MoMA, the Tate Modern, and the Centre Pompidou.
