Joseph Beuys (1921–1986) was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, renowned for his radical approach to art as a vehicle for social and political transformation. Working across media — from drawing and performance to installation and theory — he pioneered the concept of “social sculpture,” in which every person has the potential to shape society through creative action. Beuys’ art was deeply rooted in personal mythology, nature, alchemy, and a belief in the healing potential of art.
His legacy is profound, with works held in major institutions such as the Tate, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Centre Pompidou.
