Indianas "LOVE" design, originally conceived in 1964, became one of the most instantly recognizable artworks in modern history. Inspired by themes of love, spirituality, and American identity, the composition features staggered typography with a tilted O , a design that first appeared in his paintings, sculptures, and prints.

The artwork gained global recognition after it was adapted for the United States Postal Service s 1973 LOVE stamp, which became one of the most popular stamps ever issued. As a prime example of hard-edged abstraction, LOVE features flat, vibrant colors with crisp, geometric edges, a style that gained prominence in the 1960s. The artwork s universal message of love and unity resonated deeply with the eras social and political movements, becoming an enduring symbol of peace and optimism.

Robert Indiana (1928–2018) was a central figure in the American Pop Art movement. His work has been exhibited in major museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum, and the Tate Modern in London.
