Asger Jorn (1914–1973) was a leading figure of European postwar art and a founding member of the CoBrA movement, which rejected academic formalism in favor of spontaneity, experimentation, and emotional intensity. Jorn’s work bridged Abstract Expressionism, Art Informel, and Northern European mythological traditions, influencing generations of artists through his radical approach to material, gesture, and cultural critique. His late works, such as this gouache, are especially sought after for their raw immediacy and distilled visual power, representing the culmination of a lifetime devoted to artistic freedom.
