1980

A rare original lithography proof with a handwritten dedication.
Hand-signed in red at the lower right.

In this proof, the central panel — where the rules and commentary appear in the regular edition — has been left blank, and contains a handwritten dedication: “un rejet, pour Robert Desmet, amicalement, Pierre Alechinsky, 13 avril 1980”.  Robert Desmet was an influential figure in the Belgian art world at the time.

Several other unique features distinguish this proof from the standard edition: the frame of the board is printed in red instead of the usual green, and the numbered circles remain blank, further underlining its rarity.

This unique proof is part of the 1980 project L’Oie Belge (The Belgian Goose Game), a rare and dynamic collaboration between Pierre Alechinsky and Hugo Claus, two of Belgium’s most celebrated post-war artists. The game board, reimagined through a surrealist lens, integrates historical Belgian imagery with Alechinsky’s vivid, expressive drawings and Hugo Claus’s poetic commentary.

The work is elegantly framed in an exclusive, handcrafted white wooden frame, finished with PLEXIGLAS® Optical HC for UV protection, scratch resistance, and crystal-clear viewing. Size framed : approx. 70 × 100 cm
